Born in 1959 Hayward, California, Dennis Lancaster earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from San Francisco Art Institute. He taught cartooning, animation and mask sculpture for the Fremont Unified School District. Dennis then went to work for Walts Productions, a costume shop in Hayward.

"As much as I enjoyed animation, building the large scale costume characters for Walts opened up a new world of artistic expression. To be able to build what is essentially a walking sculpture that can interact with the public was just "IT" for me. I’m an old monster movie fan, especially the man in the monster suit type such as Godzilla, the Creature, etc., and this really appealed to my inner child."

After Walts Productions, Dennis met Sher Madison and began to work with Intermission Productions. Sher and Mark Rutchik of Intermission Productions were doing promotions for New Line Cinema's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies. Sher hired Dennis to build the turtle suits for these promotions. Afterwards they began to create and build their own characters, most successfully, the Dangerous Dinos which appear at countless malls, fairs, festivals, schools, theaters, and more.

Dennis has since joined Intermission Productions providing the characters for Sher Madison’s successful series of Dangerous Dinos, holiday, and anti-drug shows.

“The hundreds of performances I’ve participated in have given me a unique insight when I design and create a mascot. Not only must it be durable and visually appealing, but it must be able to work well with the performer. In my view, the performer is just as important as the mascot outfit itself. When I’m building a mascot, I strive to create one that will bring out the best people skills in the performer."

Dennis has also created mascots, puppets, and displays for a number of entertainers such as ventriloquist Steve Chaney, Kemo Channel 20’s Magic Mike, and Randal Metz of the Puppet Company. He has provided voice work for computer games, such as Skies of Arcadia for Sega.

Clients have included SSI Software, Acolade Software, Quaker Oats, Viacom, Westinghouse, Frys Electronics, Children’s Fairyland, Pixieland Amusement Park, Port of Oakland National Airport, Childrens Hospital, Todai Restaurant, Discovery Channel Stores, Monster Cable, and others.

You will be amazed at what a magical impression a beautifully constructed mascot will make for your company, team, store, or organization.Thank you for your time and interest.
